If you are a student in crisis

- call the Counseling Center at 410.951.3939, or walk in
- tell the receptionist, "I am in crisis and need to see someone as soon as possible"

Am I in Crisis?
You may be in urgent crisis if you experience extreme difficulty trying to complete an activity you can normally do without a problem or have thoughts the lead to self-harm or the harm of others. Examples of urgent crisis include:
- Inability to stop crying
- Thoughts of hurting yourself
- Thoughts of hurting other people
- Have not eaten in a few days (not due to illness)
- Have not slept in a few days (not due to illness)
- Unable to go to classes (not due to illness)
- Recent victim of sexual assault
Tips to Manage a Crisis
- Ask for help
- Don't make hasty decisions
- Don't isolate yourself
- Talk to family and friends
- Avoid alcohol and drugs
- Keep regular meal/sleep time
- Be patient with yourself
- Remember to breathe deeply
Concerned About a Student?
The Counseling Center consults with students, parents, faculty, and staff who have concerns about a student. Often, these people in a student's life are helpful in identifying a student in distress and getting the student of concern access to counseling services.
The Counseling Center also does group crisis intervention and response for groups of faculty, staff, and students who have been affected by a crisis near to on on campus. Please contact us at 410.951.3939 to request this service.
