Dr. Jeronda T. Burley is an associate professor in the Department of Social Work at Coppin State University, located in Baltimore, MD. Her research spans topics including Black motherhood, homeschooling, religiosity among African Americans, and African American caregivers. Dr. Burley has presented her research at local, national, and international conferences and has been featured on radio and television programs, both in the U.S. and abroad. With multiple scholarly articles, book chapters, and years of experience working with community-based organizations and faith communities, she is also a contributing author in the anthology series Faith for Fiery Trials, Volume II.
Dr. Burley’s burgeoning research interests include the effects of adult ADHD on relationships, parenting, work, health, and financial stability. Additionally, she aims to examine how the Black church's interpretation of scriptures on divorce may contribute to its complicity in influencing women to stay in abusive relationships. Dr. Burley is passionate about utilizing technology to boost productivity and efficiency in personal and professional environments. She is dedicated to harnessing technology not only to drive the expansion of existing small businesses but also to inspire and facilitate the development of new businesses and organizations.
In addition to her work in the academy, Dr. Burley has over 29 years of experience in the human services field working with vulnerable, oppressed, underrepresented, and undercounted populations within research, academic, clinical, treatment, community-based, medical, criminal justice, and faith-based settings. She has served in various roles, including therapist, consultant, technical associate, accreditation specialist, program manager, HIV specialist, family and group counselor, case manager, and researcher, addressing critical issues such as addiction, public health, mental health and substance abuse screening, homelessness, child welfare, unemployment, HIV/AIDS, mental health, and domestic violence.
Dr. Burley is an active member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated. She also faithfully serves her local church in the social media ministry and the church’s online campus. Above all, Dr. Burley is a proud mother of two adorable children.
